By default, listings on TheJoshuaList is designed to be search engine friendly. This means that the URL, page title, and meta tagging automatically incorporates readable and meaningful information that can then be indexed by the major search engines.
 
We recommend the following to further optimize the ranking of your listing with the major search engines:
1) Complete all information fields available for your type listing. Search engines index only what they find in your listing so leaving available fields blank can be a missed opportunity.
2) Develop a list of words or phrases that you believe are the most likely to be used by people searching for your organization's products and / or services. There are several keyword tools available from Google, Microsoft and others to help you learn about popular search terms. Once you have developed your list, carefully "wordsmith" the description text and keywords in your listing so that important words are included.
3) Add links to your listing from your website, blog, Facebook page, Twitter posts, YouTube posts, etc. Incoming links to your listing increase it's "importance" to the major search engines, which improves it ranking.
4) Search engines aren't the only way to drive traffic. Use the "Bookmark and Share" link on your listing. You can easily share your listing in over 171 different ways including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others. Sharing a listing with friends on a social network site can be particularly valuable since it can easily go "viral" (distribution to friends of friends of friends, etc...)
5) Premium and Platinum listings include additional categories, expanded keywords and descriptive text as well as featured listing placement. All of these enhancements can increase search engine exposure and result in more visitors to your listing.
